Have you ever wondered what would happen if you got lost while hiking? Would you like to go on a hike or into the woods with knowledge about how to care for yourself and others if something unplanned happened? Want to win a cool prize?

The day hike survival challenge is aimed at lightly simulating a day hike ending up as an emergency overnight camp with minimal gear and where shelter and fire are the priorities. We’ll practice making a quick shelter and how to start a fire in wet conditions with a ferro rod. Our goal is to have a fun time while also practicing some helpful skills all while only using 10 items.

10 Recommended items:
1: 8x10 Tarp- cheap Lowe’s tarp will work just fine.
2: 50ft to 100ft of cord
3: Full water bottle
4: Small pot or bush pot
5 &6: Cutting combos small knife, large knife, multi tool, saw, machete, hatchet.
7:  Flashlight/head lamp
8: Blanket/ sleeping bag/ emergency bag
9: Ferro rod (provided)
10: Compass

Free items:
Clothing
Food
Water filter (if you want to practice emergency water)
Bug spray
Medication/ first aid items

Feel free to change out or customize your 10 items however you want but please keep them within something you might have on you during a typical day hike. No hammocks or tents for this challenge. If you need any of these items and don’t want to purchase them, we can provide them if you let us know in advance.

You do not have to take this challenge to join us (come on out with your normal gear!) but we hope you push yourself and give it a try!

Meet us with your stuff at the Awendaw Passage Trail at 8:30 AM on Saturday 3/22. Please RSVP to James 843-460-2888 or Alex 803-237-0628

let us know if you have any questions!
